I reached out to Joshua Hibbard and Portland Tattoo Company for a commemorative piece celebrating a trip my son and I took together. Two tattoos, two people, my sons first.... read more Long story short: amazing to work with, very direct no bs design process, absolutely brilliant tattoo work, understands and will work with you on accommodating various needs/wants if you have them within the limits of being able to do his work. Highly recommend, would/will go back. Longer version: The difficulty for me is I have MS (Multiple Sclerosis). There are considerations I had to make for myself to even get the tattoo. It was my job to figure that out based on my condition, not his, and I did. When I explained what I was working with and what I needed, he worked with me to make sure it could happen within the limits of his business. Originally I was pretty set on matching tattoos with my son. When my son and Joshua finished the design process, it was very clearly a 2 day job. I was not comfortable committing to that on the chance after one day I would be unable to do another day or even ever get another tattoo again based on the shock a tattoo puts on your nervous system and immune system, so he worked with me to redesign my sons to contain all the correct elements to remember the trip and be a one day affair. The important part about that is he was willing to take some of his own time away from his life to work on my design with me plus he was super direct and honest about what could/could not happen. That is a welcome difference around PDX metro. IYKYK. What we ended up with is an amazing piece that accomplished all my goals without sacrificing anything structurally that took away from the meaning and intent behind the piece. His fee is high, but when you want a tattoo of the quality accomplished artists like him create, that is just the cost of doing business. It is not a knock against this artist, it is to level set your expectations when you reach out. And you should definitely reach out. You won't regret the work he does. It is a unique piece of art.

Got my first tattoo from Josh. Big thigh piece, he was very supportive throughout. I live in Colorado but I will be back for my next tattoo.

He did such a good job, and I get compliments everywhere I go. I'm head over heels in love with my piece. I had so much fun laughing, listening to his music, talking and loving on his dog (whose such a good boy) and hearing all about his appearances on the show Ink Master. I spent a long time looking for the right tattoo artist in the Portland-metro area for a large black and grey sleeve, and choosing Joshua was one of the best... read more decisions I could have made. From the first consultation, it was clear that Josh approaches tattooing like a true artist. He designed something specifically for my arm so the whole sleeve flows naturally with the shape of the body. The result feels like one cohesive piece rather than a collection of separate tattoos. His black and grey realism work is incredible. The faces, textures, and shading look almost like a charcoal drawing on skin, and the transitions are really smooth even up close. The surreal elements in my sleeve give the whole piece a lot of depth. You can tell he puts a lot of thought into composition and placement, which makes the sleeve look great from every angle. The studio was clean and comfortable for long sessions, and Josh is easy to talk to during the process. You can tell he really cares about doing great work. I get compliments on this tattoo all the time, even from people who already have a lot of tattoos. If you're looking for a realism or sleeve tattoo artist, I highly recommend Josh.

The design turned out absolutely stunning -- bold, detailed, and full of life. The shading and line work are flawless, giving the panther a powerful and realistic look.
